How are residual values determined at Autotelex?
Autotelex determines current residual values based on a carefully compiled vehicle database, methodology, and network. To ensure an independent and objective valuation, information is gathered from various sources, including auto wholesalers, car dealerships, specialized auto dealers, leasing companies, auction results, internal bids, and used car portals. The interpretation and processing of this information is an ongoing process based on years of expertise.
The Sales Value and Market Value presented by Autotelex are continuously assessed against the most up-to-date market information. In this way, both the Market Values and the Sales Values are continuously monitored, as is the relationship between the two. Autotelex closely follows the market but does not act on the whims of the moment. This prevents the values from being manipulated by isolated transactions.
As a result, Autotelex has been the stable and reliable benchmark for professionals in the Dutch automotive industry for many years.
Weighted list prices, equipment, and optionsOur current residual values are determined manually for each model variant based on the information sources described below, and converted into a depreciation rate. To prevent attractively priced promotional models from being assigned an excessively low residual value, Autotelex uses what is known as the Autotelex New Price. This is a weighted new price based on the standard equipment of the model variant.
Options selected for a specific model are often already known to Autotelex through the manufacturers and offer their own added value. Autotelex distinguishes between so-called “resale value-enhancing” options and other options, and both follow their own resale value trends.
We are in regular contact with wholesalers in the Netherlands. We also use the electronic bids on vehicles placed through our systems as input when determining our residual values.
Virtually all leasing companies use Autotelex for benchmarking. A significant number of these companies share their actual realized revenues with Autotelex. Many leasing companies compare their realized revenues to the values provided by Autotelex.
Changes to the BPM, MRB, tax incentives—in short, everything discussed in the various “Autobrieven” and more—are analyzed and interpreted by Autotelex.
This means that different target groups have different interests regarding residual value, and Autotelex therefore distinguishes between target groups to ensure the correct interpretation of residual value. For example, auction proceeds must be interpreted differently than trade-in value.
With an ever-growing number of professional automotive companies using AutotelexPro (currently around 2,800), feedback from every trade-in vehicle appraisal serves as a valuable source for optimizing our residual values. For the major dealership groups in the Netherlands as well, Autotelex forms the basis for accurate appraisals.
This refers to periodic surveys in which we specifically consult a number of experts on developments in the automotive industry.
This refers primarily to our experience, which we use not to directly replicate market movements one-to-one, but to quickly and carefully assess and apply their (long-term) impact.
With the Autotelex B2B app, dealers can submit bids and purchase vehicles in a flash.
Some of these bids result in a sale. These transactions serve as a basis for us to determine and adjust residual values.
We monitor and analyze all national and international market trends, such as the rise of electric vehicles, autonomous driving, tax policies, import and export trends, and more. Every day, we assess all newly sold vehicles and link this data to the Autotelex database. This integration forms the basis for an initial valuation of a new model.
Various auction houses share their auction proceeds with Autotelex on an ongoing basis, and we review and process this information.
Autotelex pays close attention to every used car website, including Marktplaats. Here, too, Autotelex demonstrates its ability to process this data accurately and avoid publishing values determined purely on a statistical basis.
